Green Curry with Fish Ball (Kaeng Keaw Warrn Luk Chin Pla Klay)


Green Curry with Fish Ball or kang keaw wan Luk Chin Pla klay. This fish ball made from Clown Knife fish.

INGREDIENTS:
  • ¼ cup green curry paste
  • 350 g Clown Knifefish ball
  • 1 ¼ cups coconut milk
  • ¼ cup thai basil leaves
  • 2 eggplants, cut into small pieces.
  • ½ cup chicken stock
  • 2 tbsp palm sugar
  • 3 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 red chilies, sliced diagonally
  • 4 kaffir lime leaves
  • 1 g. Slide Tumicuni (Kra CHai Soi)
PREPARATIONS:
  • Bring ½ cup of coconut milk (use the thick cream off the top) to a boil in a pan. Cook over medium heat, stirring often for 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Add green curry paste continue to cook and stir until the mixture becomes dry and fragrant.
  • Add the Clown Knifefish ball and stir for 1-2 minutes, add fish sauce, sugar, keep stirring for another minute then add cut eggplant, the remaining coconut milk and chicken stock.
  • Cook over medium heat until the chicken is cooked and eggplant is tender.
  • Add kaffir lime leaves and Thai basil.
  • Transfer mixture to a larger pot to a boil.
  • Remove from heat and adjust the seasoning and transfer to a serving bowl.

    Hi Tan! This looks light but really flavorful. I think I can get all the ingredients except for the Clown Knifefish balls. I'll have to use something else instead. Any recommendations? The sauce looks great, and just gazing at your photo I can almost taste the coconut milk, curry paste, fish sauce, sugar, and kaffir lime! Thanks for sharing this!

    Thank you for fasten comment and very nice one hahahah...Well, If you are in Japan now I guess not difficult to find Clown Knifefish. But may be you have to cook this fish ball yourslef. Or you can use any kind of fish ball, pork, beef, chicken or any fish as your wish.

    About green curry, I only took once when I was at a Thai restaurant in Penang.Ever since then, I dare not try green curry anymore. We returned them the whole bowl of green curry! To me the smell was weird. Not sure if all green curry has the same taste as the one that I had before.

    Hi My Taste Heaven,
    Green curry is famous worldwide. And not at all can make a original taste only in Thailand. I also travel worldwide and never heard that Thai Green Curry is smelling or bad smell. But the taste is different from original for sure. Because of herbs inside, we using fresh coconut milk not from a can or box. Also don't use green curry paste in package.

    But I understand once and first trying if you met bad thing what are you feeling. But I confirm not at all the same, most of them are the best.
